Description
Pak Choi White Stemmed (Brassica rapa var. chinensis) is a fast-growing, cool-season leafy vegetable prized for its crisp white stems and tender, dark green leaves. Popular in Asian cuisine, it is a versatile vegetable ideal for stir-fries, soups, steaming, or raw in salads. Its mild, slightly mustardy flavour and juicy texture make it a culinary favourite.
In South African gardens, Pak Choi thrives during the cooler months of autumn and early spring, especially in areas like Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0–7.5. This variety matures quickly, often ready for harvest in 30-50 days, making it ideal for succession planting and small-space vegetable gardens.
Highly nutritious and easy to grow, Pak Choi White Stemmed is a perfect choice for gardeners looking to add a low-maintenance, high-yielding leafy green to their seasonal rotation.
