Description
Peas Greenfeast (Pisum sativum) is a popular shelling pea variety prized for its succulent, sweet peas and vigorous growth. It produces heavy yields of plump pods, each containing up to 8 tender, flavourful peas, ideal for fresh eating, freezing, or cooking.
This variety is a cool-season crop, making it perfectly suited for autumn to early spring planting in most South African regions, particularly where winters are mild and frost-free. Greenfeast grows up to 90 cm tall and may benefit from light staking or support, though it is also manageable as a bush-type in smaller spaces.
Fast-growing and low-maintenance, this heirloom pea offers high productivity, excellent disease resistance, and is a great choice for home gardens, schools, or community plots.

Ideal Growing Environment
-
Well-drained, soil with added compost and nutrition; pH 6.0–7.5.

Not heavy feeders; avoid nitrogen-rich fertilisers. Use compost or seaweed extract.
-
Prefers cooler temperatures, ideal for temperate regions or higher elevations.
-
Best in moderate humidity (50–70%) with good air circulation to avoid mildew.
- Requires trellising or support. Harvest regularly to encourage continued pod formation.
- Benefits from being planted alongside carrots, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, corn, beans, and mint.
- Intercropping: Pair with tomatoes, capsicums, broccoli, or lettuce.
- Crop Rotation: Plant after heavy feeders (tomatoes, broccoli). Follow with carrots or lettuce.
