Description
Dolomite is a type of limestone that contains calcium and magnesium and provides valuable nutrients to plants and helps change the pH of your soil by raising it to match the needs of your plants.
Mixtures should contain 8 to 12 percent magnesium and 18 to 22 percent calcium. Dolomite lime can also contain sodium, however it should not be more than 2% as this can change the salinity of your soil and end up killing your plants.
Dolomite Lime is best used in acidic mediums, such as Coco Peat as this grow medium is known for its natural acidity. In addition, acidity in soil can raise for many reasons; overuse of fertilizers, rain and the lack of important nutrients that results from planting and harvesting over many years.
Benefits
- Dolomite Lime increases the pH of soil in acidic mediums.
- Natural source of Magnesium with some calcium
- Contains trace elements that encourages growth of beneficial microorganisms that contribute to plant health.
- Dolomite lime works effectively, even with one treatment.
- Faster acting but with long lasting effects.
- Dolomite lime allows for improved water penetration in acidic soils.
- Dolomite lime improves the uptake of major nutrients important for plant health in acidic grow mediums.

Organic amendment
Soil Mix: Pre pH buffer soil
-
Dosage:
- 3ml Dolomite Lime per 1L substrate
- 90ml Dolomite Lime per 30L substrate
-
Dosages can vary significantly depending on soil substrate
- Frequency: When mixing/revitalizing a substrate
- Application:
- Get a container or set a tarp on the ground
- Add the substrate, Dolomite Lime and other soil amendments
- Mix well and water lightly
- Cover the soil to avoid pests and keep soil from drying out
- Recommended to let the soil sit for approx. 2 months before use
Soil Mix: To increase the pH by 1 unit
-
Dosage:
-
If you have an acidic soil mix (50% peat moss & 50% vermiculite) and you need to increase your pH from 4.5pH to 5.5pH
- 4ml Dolomite Lime per 1L substrate
- 120ml Dolomite Lime per 30L substrate
- Dosages can vary significantly depending on soil substrate
- Frequency: When mixing/revitalizing a substrate
- Application:
- Get a container or set a tarp on the ground
- Add the substrate, Dolomite Lime and other soil amendments
- Mix well and water lightly
- Cover the soil to avoid pests and keep soil from drying out
- Recommended to let the soil sit for approx. 2 months before use
To Change the Soil's pH in Garden Beds
- Dolomite lime increases the pH of soil, making it more alkaline. Determine how much is needed, dependent on the current pH of your soil, and spread Dolomite lime on top layer of soil.
- Per 1m³ of soil apply 2800g / 2L of Dolomite lime to raise the pH by 1 point.
- The medium pH typically takes at least two days to stabilize from the limestone addition alone and may take up to 3 weeks to be fully reacted. Wait before reapplication.
1L of Dolomite Lime (approx. 1.6kg)
Helpful tips:
To prevent burning of existing plants, spread the applications out throughout the growing season.
