Description
70% alcohol solution is a combination of 70% pure alcohol and 30% water. 70% alcohol kills microorganisms by dissolving the plasma membrane of the cell walls. Water is required to denature the proteins of the cell membranes and acts as a catalyst for the reaction.
This solution if effective against most bacteria, fungi and many viruses. 70% alcohol takes more time to evaporate from the surface thus increasing the contact time.
For a more effective rubbing alcohol we would recommend 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.
Benefits
- Fast-acting
- Non staining
- No toxic residue
- Disinfecting - helps control pathogens
- Easily clean all growing equipment
- Acceptable odor
- Increased contact time
Ingredients
- 70% isopropyl alcohol 99.9% (IPA)
- 30% Distilled water
Why is a lower alcohol percentage better for disinfecting?
High percentage alcohol solutions like 90% alcohol fries the outside of the cell before it can get into the inside of the cell and kill the actual germ. Whereas, lower alcohol percentage like 70% alcohol is just the right proportion of water and alcohol to kill the entire cell.
How to use
- Use soap and water to remove any visible dirt or debris before disinfecting.
- Wear gloves to protect against skin irritation.
- Wipe down the desired surface with alcohol solution, ensure the surface remains visibly wet for at least 30 seconds.
1L = approx. 0.868kg at 20°C
Please Note:
- Keeping your grow room clean and tidy is the best preventative method.
- Hydrogen peroxide or HOCL Solution is more effective against Powdery Mildew spores, although 70% alcohol will work.
