Worm Farm (Vermicomposter) Kit

R890 - R1 190
INFORMATION

Description

Earthworm castings done right is the best form of compost you can use on planet earth. Earthworm castings are full of organic matter and desirable microorganisms that yield benefits far beyond what fertilizer ratios show. Worms make all the nutrients available to your plant as well as protecting both soil and plants from diseases, and helps the soil retain moisture.

The worm bin is perfect for those that want to environmentally turn their food & garden scraps into normal worm castings, instead of having it waste away in garbage bins & landfills.

For for those that are looking for the highest form of compost, simply feed your bins what you would feed your plants, because the worms make all the food they eat available to the plant. The best worm castings typically come from home bins where you can control the inputs.

Benefits of wormcastings as a "fertilizer"

  • Full of desirable microorganisms.
  • Full of organic matter - Organic matter feeds soil microorganisms that produce, store and slowly release plant nutrition.
  • Prevents plant diseases - including damping-off disease in seedlings, root and crown rots and wilt disease.
  • Inhibit some insect pests, including mites, aphids and mealy bugs.
  • Clean and easy to use.
  • Neutral pH - no need for pH adjusting.
  • Improves soil structure.
  • More humus than traditional compost, worm castings increase the water retention in soil, improve soil aeration and anchor plant nutrients that would otherwise leach away with water.
  • Enhanced seed germination, plant growth, flowers and fruit production.
  • Odourless and non-toxic.
  • Will not nutrient burn plants.

        How to create premium castings?

High quality worm castings are the best form of compost you can make on planet earth. For the highest form of vermi-compost, simply feed your bins what you would feed plants, because the worms make all the food they digest readily available to the plant.

High quality inputs result in high quality outputs, as the worms make all the food they consume available to the plant (they cover the digested food with calcium carbonate). So simply put - what you put in your worm bed is what you get out.

You would typically feed your worms what you would add to your super soil, some examples include:

Can also apply Biodyne 501 to help the worms break down all the harder material.

You can create a bedding with coco coir.

Tip: When you top dress with malted barely you not only feed your soil but your worms!

        Disclaimer:

Please note that worms only last a maximum of 5 days in transit. For this reason, we will only be shipping out full kits on Mondays and Tuesdays (unless shipping to somewhere in the surrounding area) to prevent them from sitting in the courier's storage facility over the weekends. Furthermore, if you live in an outlying area (outside of the Western Cape and far away from any of the major cities), we do not recommend ordering worms as there is a high likelihood of them dying during transit. You may order at your own risk, but in the event of receiving dead worms, no compensation will be made to those ordering from outlying regions.
