Description 

Epsom Salts is a nickname given to Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate. It is very similar in looks to table salt but vastly different in terms of molecular structure. Using Epsom salts is a fantastic way to give your plant extra Magnesium and Sulphur. Epsom salts are very easy to use and very hard to misuse.

Epsom Salts are used to treat Sulphur and magnesium deficiency. Epsom salts is a great organic additive used in both hydroponic and organic soils. Epsom salts is not a bio-accumulator, so it does not build up in your soils over time.

Since Epsom Salts are “of the earth”, meaning they are a harvested product found in well water, it is considered organic, and subsequently are considered safe for organic gardening. Unlike synthetic fertilizers, which build up in the soil over time, Epsom Salts is not persistent, and will not toxify your soil.

How to use

5ml = 1 teaspoon | 15ml = 1 Tablespoon | 240ml = 1 Cup

You can either liquid feed (recommended) or top dress.

Liquid Feeding

Substrate additive & Deficiency Prevention

Soil Drench Dosage: 2.5 - 5ml per 1L water Frequency: every 4-6 weeks Application: Feed with normal watering Dilute well in watering tank Wait for the substrate to dry then water to saturation A dry substrate is approx. 25% of the original weight

Foliar Spray Dosage: 3ml per 1L water Frequency: every 2nd week Application: Dilute well in a compression sprayer tank Spray in the early morning or late afternoon Do not spray your plants when you are beyond early flower or when the lights are on

Treating Deficiencies

Soil Drench Dosage: 5 - 7.5ml per 1L water Frequency: Apply when deficiency noticed Wait 4 - 5 days before reapplying, evaluating results by comparing growth patterns and leaf colouring Application: Feed with normal watering Dilute well in watering tank Wait for the substrate to dry then water to saturation A dry substrate is approx. 25% of the original weight

Organic Amendment

Soil mix and top dressing additive 

Soil Mix Dosage: 2.5ml Epsom Salts per 1L substrate 80ml Epsom Salts per 30L substrate Frequency: When mixing/revitalizing a substrate Application:  Get a container or set a tarp on the ground Add the substrate, Epsom Salts and organic soil amendments Mix well and water lightly Cover the soil to avoid pests and keep soil from drying out Recommended to let the soil sit for approx. 2 months before use

Top Dressing Dosage: 1ml Epsom Salts per 1L substrate 30ml Epsom Salts per 30L substrate Frequency: Apply every 4-6 weeks before a watering Application:  Evenly distributed on top of the substrate Follow with a normal watering. Always use dechlorinated water for organics. Other recommended products to top dress here.

Helpful tips: 

• Mix Epsom Salts with a small amount of luke warm water before adding the rest of the water to ensure even dilution.
• Do not top dress, foliar spray and soil drench Epsom Salts, only use one method at a time.
• Dosages can vary depending on existing soil, frequency of application and environmental conditions.
• Epsom salts are hard to overdo, however, a little goes a long way.
